Magic With Intention
Intention is the purpose behind the magic. It is what you want to encourage, strengthen, protect, understand, change or release.
That might mean calling in confidence before a difficult conversation, creating a sense of protection around your home, finding calm during a stressful week, gaining clarity around a decision, building courage for a change, or holding onto hope when things feel heavy.
Once the intention is clear, the correspondences can follow. Colours, herbs, crystals, candles, symbols, tarot and other tools can all be chosen to support that focus and give it a physical form.
Working With Intention
An intention gives your practice direction. It helps you decide what you are actually trying to bring forward, strengthen, shift or let go of.
You can work with an intention in many ways. You might choose a colour to wear, carry a crystal, light a candle, use particular herbs, pull a tarot card, create a small charm, add something meaningful to your home, or simply spend a little time focusing on what you want to change.
The tools are there to support the intention. They help create focus, reinforce meaning and give you something tangible to work with.
Using Correspondences
Correspondences are the colours, plants, crystals, symbols, elements, moon phases, tarot cards and other associations traditionally linked with particular qualities or intentions.
They can help when you are deciding what to include in a ritual, spell, charm, altar, seasonal display or everyday practice. They can also be useful when you want to build a stronger connection between an intention and the things you already use in your home or personal practice.
Different traditions and sources will not always agree on every correspondence, and personal associations can be just as meaningful. A particular flower, colour, scent, stone or object might hold a strong connection for you because of your own experiences, memories or feelings.
Choosing Your Intention
Think about what is happening in your life and what you want to focus on.
What do you want to strengthen?
What are you trying to protect?
What do you want to invite in?
What feels ready to change?
What are you ready to release?
What would help you feel more grounded, supported, clear or confident?
From there, choose the intention that feels closest to what you need and explore the correspondences and practices connected with it.
