Cleansing
Cleansing is about clearing away what feels stale, heavy, cluttered or no longer useful so there is room for something fresher to take its place.
It can be used for yourself, your home, a room, an object or a particular situation. For some people, cleansing is part of spiritual practice. For others, it is simply a way of marking a reset and changing the atmosphere of a space.
When to Work With Cleansing
Cleansing can be useful after illness, arguments, difficult visitors, periods of stress, major life changes or whenever a room or home starts to feel flat or unsettled.
It also works well at the beginning of a new season, before ritual work, when bringing home second-hand objects, after moving house or whenever you feel ready for a fresh start.

Colours
White is strongly associated with cleansing, purification and fresh energy.
Blue can bring a sense of calm, clarity and emotional cleansing.
Yellow is useful when cleansing is connected with mental clarity, optimism and lifting stagnant energy.

Ways to Work With Cleansing
Open doors and windows and let fresh air move through the space.
Physically clean or declutter the area before adding any spiritual or symbolic cleansing.
Sweep or vacuum while focusing on removing what feels stagnant or unwanted.
Use sound by ringing a bell, clapping, playing music or using another sound that changes the atmosphere of the room.
Place fresh herbs, flowers or branches around the home.
Wash doorways, floors or surfaces with a suitable herbal or scented cleaning mixture.
Take a shower or wash your hands and face with the intention of leaving the day behind.
Light a white candle after cleaning and spend a few moments noticing how the space feels.
Clear out objects that are broken, unused or connected with something you genuinely feel ready to leave behind.
Simple Cleansing Bowl
Fill a small bowl with clean water and add a sprig of rosemary, a slice of lemon or another cleansing plant that is safe to handle.
Place the bowl in the room while you clean or reset the space and use it as a simple focus for your intention to clear out what feels stale or heavy.
When you are finished, pour the water away and rinse the bowl.

Cleansing Affirmation
I release what has become heavy or stagnant and make space for clarity, freshness and change.
